Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met Dec. 9 at the Sundance Restaurant for their Christmas Party with 19 members and 1 guest attending. Following a very brief business meeting, a meal was served.

Vanetta Beach installed new officers with an “Ode to Grandma’s Apron”, presenting painted wooded apron magnets to each officer and small apron magnets to everyone present. New officers are Sheryl Abdill, president; Jeanetta Mesner, vice president; Linda Roberts , secretary; and Betty Jackson, treasurer.

After the party a few members took tote bags, daily need items, stuffed toys and books collected to the Hartley House.

Rebekah Lodge

The Rebekah Lodge met Dec. 28, at the Oddfellow Hall, 405 Main St. The charter was draped honoring Nina Yabrough, a deceased member. Each member was asked about the highlight of their Christmas.

Plans were made for the instillation of the 2005 officers. The instillation will take place after the Jan. 11 meeting. Evelyn Calder will be installed as Noble Grand with Serena Goar as Vice Grand. Allene Luther will serve as conductor, and Vicky Howard will serve as chaplain. Wanda Scott will serve as warden; Bill Luther will be outside guardian; and Melvin Goar will be inside guardian.

District Deputy President Allene Luther will conduct the instillation after the regular business meeting starting at 2 p.m. The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Oddfellow Hall, 405 Main St.

Reunions

The National Museum of the Pacific War and Admiral Nimitz Foundation will l commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima with “A Public Tribute to the Heroes of Iwo Jima,” Feb. 17-21 in Fredericksburg, Texas. The registration fee to attend the commemoration is free for all Iwo Jima veterans and $25 for spouses, other family members and guests. Weddings

King-Pereira

Heather Danielle King of Dallas and Nicolas David Pereira of Merignac, France were joined in marriage Dec. 29, 2004 at a private ceremony in Hacienda Dona Andrea in Cerrillos, N.M.

The Rev. James Roach performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Roy and Theresa King of Clovis.

She is the granddaughter of Bill Howard and the late Mamie Howard of Clovis.

The bridegroom is the son of Joaquim and Marie Madeline Pereira of Merignac.

The couple will reside in Dallas.

Anniversaries

Pinnell

Wayne (Tuff) and Joan Pinnell of Melrose, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 16, 2005 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Melrose.

The celebration will be hosted by their children and family.

The couple was married Jan. 15, 1955 in Adrian, Texas.

They have four children, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is a rancher.

She is a housewife.

The celebration is open to friends and relatives.

Birthday

Lair

Annie Pearl Lair of Melrose will celebrate her 90th birthday Jan. 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Melrose Senior Citizens Center.

The celebration will be hosted by her family.

Annie Pearl Lair was born Jan. 13, 1915 in Honey Grove, Texas.

She has three children, 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

The celebration is open to friends and relatives.
