Search ongoing for Alamogordo woman

The search continues for a missing Alamogordo woman who went for a walk and never returned on Sept. 24.

David Lynn said his wife, 55-year-old Vicky Lynn, takes medication to battle her depression, but he said he wasn’t sure if she took her medication on that morning.

“I feel powerless,” David Lynn said about the last 3 1/2 months. “I’ll be honest with you, if there’s something substantial we’re depending on someone else (outside of Alamogordo). I really think we would have found her if she was still in Alamogordo.”

Vicky Lynn is the mother of Josh Lynn, who was a former Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound football player and coach. Lynn is now an assistant coach for defensive backs for Delta State University Statesmen. Delta State University is located in Cleveland, Miss, a town in northwest Mississippi approximately 20 miles from the Arkansas border.

Capt. Norbert Sanchez of the Otero County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating the case. When asked about the possibility that Vicky Lynn left on her own free will, Sanchez said that was one of several possibilities.

“We haven’t been able to rule anything out,” Sanchez said. “Her disappearing was unusual. The case is still wide open.”

David Lynn said on Jan. 6 he received a call from someone at the Nederland Police Department saying they had seen someone who fit the description. Nederland is in southeast Texas, within 20 miles of the Louisiana border.

“It wasn’t her,” David Lynn said. “They explained to me they thought it met her physical description, but it ended up being someone else.”

Despite the leads falling through and having few clues to her disappearance, David Lynn said people from Alamogordo and around the country have been supportive and helpful.

This was the case when she was first reported missing and the Eastern New Mexico University football team called off a September practice to travel to Alamogordo to help search. ENMU head coach Bud Elliott, his coaching staff and about 50 players participated in the search for Vicky Lynn.

“People who I’ve never met know me and ask me how I am,” David Lynn said. “They’ve been real good and supportive. It gives me faith in mankind.”

Sanchez said missing adult cases are some of the toughest cases to solve.

“The biggest problem is that we ran out of leads,” Sanchez said. “The leads we had haven’t been able to turn up anything.”

Sanchez said he continues to keep in touch with the family in case either he or the family has any leads to follow up on.

“It’s been frustrating for them,” Sanchez said. “It’s understandable. They want to get some closure.”

Vicky Lynn’s photo has been posted on Web site’s on the Internet in hopes someone will notice her and call the Alamogordo Sheriff Department at 505-437-2210. According to the Sheriff’s department release, Vicky Lynn is 5-foot-11 and approximately 145 pounds. She has medium length blonde hair and wears wire frame glasses.
