Police blotter 1-19

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Police were dispatched Friday to the 1400 block of St. Andrews Drive in reference to a fraud report.

The officer spoke with a woman who said she had been ripped off by a door-to-door magazine salesman.

She said a man came to her door and sold her $108 worth of magazines, but then she saw a news report on TV exposing a magazine sales scam. She planned on canceling the check she used to partially pay for the order.

Later it became clear that the company was legitimate. Other officers said the company sends representatives through the area every year, and the responding officer made contact with the company to validate the sales.

Police received multiple calls Friday from a subject living in the 900 block of Locust Street claiming he kept seeing men with guns.

The officers checked out the man for the third time, and one said that the subject was having hallucinations and posing more and more of a threat to himself and others.

The man was apparently seeing people who were not there and persisting that someone was after him.

He was taken to Curry County Adult Detention center and held for 24 hours in protective custody.

Police officers were at a traffic stop Friday in the 900 block of Sheldon Street when they saw a man exit his house, spot them and run back inside.

One officer approached the subject’s house. The man inside the house peeked out, saw the cops and ran back to his living room, seeming to push a rocking chair next to the window.

The officer knocked on the door and asked the man if there was any marijuana in the house. The man said no.

The officer asked if he could search behind the rocking chair. The man said yes. The search revealed baggies of marijuana, rolling papers, a glass pipe and other paraphernalia.

The man was arrested and taken to the Curry County Adult Detention center, booked on possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
