Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
There is a whisper of oil interest in and around the area of South County. Just hope it develops into more than a whisper. There are still wells producing, but it all sort of halted in the early 80s. It sure would boost the economy and our hopes for the future.
Special notice
Laverne Coffman called me to let the area know there will be a game night in the Causey Community Building starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is invited to come and bring your dominoes and all kinds of card games. Everyone bring finger foods to enjoy for the fellowship time. They ask for anyone to come join in their night of fun.
Ladies home demo club
These ladies at Causey have their regular meetings on every second Monday of each month. The next meeting will be Feb. 14. This is at the Community Building also. They invite others to come visit or join.
Services
There was a funeral service in the Inez cemetery Monday at 2 p.m. This was for Vivean Morris, one of the pioneers of our area. She was a daughter of Charlie and Mary Jane Wortham. They lived in our area and she married Scott Morris in 1926 in Portales. They moved to Muleshoe and she was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist there in Muleshoe. She was 99 years old and died in the Park View Nursing Home there.
Charlie’s fact
On this day, Jan. 26, in 1784 in a letter to his daughter, Ben Franklin wrote to his daughter about his disapproval of the eagle as a symbol of the United States. He suggested using the wild turkey.
