Guard Jon Jones scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter Monday night and Hereford Community Christian stunned Faith Triumphant 70-65 at the FTCS gym.
Nathan Louden had 23 points and Brook Brookhart 12 for the Warriors (13-7), who had lost to FTCS by 21 points in each of the team’s previous meetings this season.
The Conquerors (9-4) put four players in double figures — Caleb Richards with 19, Luis McCain with 15 and Eric Cathey and Seth Pearson with 12 apiece.
FTCS led most of the first half, but fell behind quickly when play resumed and trailed 61-49 with three minutes left.
The Conquerors then went on a 13-0 run in a span of 1:45, capped by McCain’s long 3-pointer. Richards’ basket with 54 seconds left put FTCS in front 64-62, but Jones converted a layup and four free throws in the remaining time as three FTCS starters fouled out and Community Christian finished on an 8-1 run.
In girls action, Community Christian scored just before the final buzzer to pull out a 38-36 win over the Lady Conquerors.
Jessica McCain had a team-high 13 points for FTCS while Cassie Padden, who nailed three 3-pointers in the first quarter, and Reshea Kelly both scored 11 points. Padden finished with 14 rebounds while Kelly grabbed 13.
The FTCS boys play at home again in a 6 p.m. game on against Lubbock Home School. The girls are at home on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff against Carlsbad Victory Christian.
