Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Homecoming festivities were held last Friday at Conqueror Gym. Victoria Payen and Luis McCain were the 2005 queen and king. Attendants were Cassie Paden and Eric Cathey. The flower girl was Bryanna Moore, and the crown bearer was Tobin Alford. FTCS alumni played against the Varsity boys. The varsity boys barely squeaked out a victory over the alumni with a score of 57-54.
Spelling bee
The Spelling bee will be on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. The third through fifth grades will compete first with grades 6-8 immediately following.
Family fun night
Family fun night is scheduled for Friday. Beginning at 7 p.m., we will serve a hamburger meal for $5. Students in grades 1-4 will present their play, “Grandma’s Attic,” and the high school will present “The Cactus Wildcat." Afterwards, there will be games for the whole family, with prizes to be awarded.
Third/fourth grade update
The third and fourth grade classes are working hard in their school work, according to Mrs. Terry Jones. In math, the third-graders are learning multiplication and division facts with long division practice and measurement equations while the fourth-graders are working on fractions. The language classes are working on capitalization, punctuation, and the parts of speech. In Spelling, the students are studying for the Spelling bee. Both classes are reading “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” and have just started their unit on New Mexico history and geography. The students finished painting their puppet stage that they will use to work with their puppets on Fridays.
