Ruth Adams, 95
Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales.
Mrs. Ruth Adams, 95, of Portales, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1909, near Rogers, to U.S. and Ruth Fraze.
She attended schools in Longs, Rogers and Dora, graduating from high school in Portales in 1928. She attended college in Canyon, Texas, and Las Vegas, N.M. She married Ira Adams on Dec. 20, 1930. They made their home in the Rogers community. In the 1970s, teaching art at senior centers in Causey and Dora. Family members said she was an avid artist in all mediums, including kiln-fired items, and painting oils on canvas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Cala Walker, Zelma Adams, Ora Creek and Floy Victor; three brothers, Phillip, Ralph and Leslie Fraze; a half-brother, Clarence Fraze; a half-sister, Mabel Ledbetter; and by her husband.
Survivors include two daughters, Lotus Flen and Lecil (and husband, Duane) Cornett, all of Portales; seven grandchildren, Michael (Cyndee), David (Panda), Wylie (Becky) and Twila Flen, all of Portales, Gwen Limmer of Clovis, Tim Mitchell of Portales, and Lecia Fuentes of Lundstahl, Germany; 18 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie Kennedy (D.L.) of Portales and Sybil Victor (Bill) of Dora; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Fraze and Zillah Fraze, both of Portales; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Victor of Portales; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Walter Huber will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jonathan, Brandon, and Christopher Flen, Mike, Marshall, B.J., Justin, Jamey, and Ryan Mitchell, and David and Michael Limmer.
Honorary pallbearers are all other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends.

Maybelle Shults, 96

Mrs. Maybelle Elaine Shults, 96, of Portales, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1908, in Greenback, Tenn., to Rosa and W.E. Mills.
She came to New Mexico in 1909 when her parents homesteaded near Ranchvale. She became a resident of Portales in 1960, when she moved here with her husband, Clyde A. Shults, a retired school teacher and Methodist minister. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portales and had been active in the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles L. Mills, William Leslie Mills, and Vernon R. Mills; two sisters, Edith Norris and Lucille Lancaster; two sons, Edwin Leon Shults and Don Edward Shults; and by her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (and husband, Roland) Erwin of Portales; eight grandchildren, Preston and Austin Lenard of Portales, Deanna Lenard of Mesa, Ariz., Leticia Johnston of Albuquerque, Michael Erwin of Fort Worth, Texas, Teri Carrell and Dina Bajinski of Alamogordo, and Brenda Stolte of Arlington, Texas; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vivian Webb of Portales.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Daniel Villanueva, 88
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Mr. Daniel G. Villanueva, 88, of Portales, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the home of his daughter.
He was born on April 17, 1916, in LaQuesta, near Villanueva, to Margarita and Florian Villanueva. He married Antonia Lucero on Dec. 28, 1936, in Santa Fe.
He was a hard-working man who had done various types of work. He worked for the City of Portales. He had also worked on farms and for local peanut companies. Family members said he enjoyed raising cows and horses and other farm animals and doing word search puzzles. He was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Antonio Villanueva; a sister, Anecita Lucero; a son, Facundo Villanueva; and by his wife.
Survivors include three sons, Florian Villanueva (and wife, Mary) of Deming, and Ernest Villanueva (Adelina) and Jerry Villanueva, all of Portales; seven daughters, Margaret Villanueva, Amelia Trujillo (Agapito), Elijia Villanueva, Lucy Segovia, Cecilia Montoya (David), Rita Ortega (Nino), and Dora Apodaca (Henry), all of Portales; 31 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jennifer and Isidro Ortega, Raymond Mirabal, Eric and Britney Villanueva, and Kim Tarango.
Honorary pallbearers are all his other grandchildren.
