Mary Lee Cass, 85, of Friona, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Prairie Acres in Friona.

She was born on May 14, 1919, in Wellington, Texas. She married Kenyth Cass on May 11, 1935, at the First Methodist Church in Wellington. They farmed in Dodson, Texas, and Littlefield, moving to Phoenix, Ariz., and then Albuquerque. In 1951, they moved to Friona, purchasing land and farming until 1988.

She was active in the Friona United Methodist Church and in United Methodist Women. She enjoyed writing poetry, cooking and spending time with her family and friends, family members said.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Louis Jerrell and Hattie (Gollihugh) Jones; and a brother, L.J. Jones Jr.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Cass (and wife, Karene) of Clovis; a daughter, Gay Price (George) of Midland, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Ingram (W.S.) of Friona; five grandchildren, Laurie Sheppard (Frank) of Houston; Russell Price of Fort Collins, Colo.; John Cass (Renee) of Bryan, Texas; Jennifer Burks (Brian) of Flint, Texas; and Mary Frances Weatherly (Ben) of Round Rock, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Rylee Cass and Hannah Burks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate the services.

Burial will be at the Friona Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona.
