Mr. Antonio C. Quintero, 87, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
He was born July 16, 1917, to Ramona and Pedro Quintero in Celaya, Gaunajuato, Mexico.
He grew up in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, where he attended school. At an early age he began woodworking and working in construction in Mexico. He came to the United States in 1956 where he met and later married Micaela Cortez on July 27, 1958, in El Paso, Texas. They settled in Portales where he worked for different contractors for a short time before becoming self-employed doing custom Mexican tile work and carpentry. Over the years, he trained several local craftsmen and continued working throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, gardening and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Manuel; three sisters, Eufemia, Jacinta and Mercedes; and a son, Tino, who died in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Micaela Quintero of Portales; a son, Michael Quintero of Portales; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patsy Dawman of Vicksburg, Miss., Grace Uihlein (and husband, Bill) of Vicksburg, Miss, Mona Quintero of Portales, and Lisa (Chris) Dunstone of Ft. Welton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Rev. Tobin Hitt will be the celebrant.
Public viewing will be on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the beginning of the Mass.
Pallbearers are Polo Acosta, Jr., Polo Acosta, Sr., Chris Dunstone, Bill Uihlein, Craig Counts and Michael Quintero.
Honorary Pallbearers are all family members and friends.
