Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Portales and Clovis entrepreneurs and small businesses owners will have a chance to learn more about making their business a “destination” during workshops scheduled next week.
Jon Schallert, a business consultant, will be sharing ideas with small business owners and entrepreneurs from Portales and Clovis to increase sales and profits. During Schallert’s sessions he will also teach business owners how to attract customers to eastern New Mexico.
“He will be able to give people new ideas about marketing their business and how to bring people to Portales,” Jeremy Sturm, Portales MainStreet manager and economic development director, said. “So they (business owners) can make their business a destination. He can also help out people who are starting a new business and how to market their business.”
Sturm said Schallert will discuss marketing techniques, tactics and marketing through the Internet.
The sessions in Portales are free. There will be a workshop from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday and a marketing roundtable from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building in Portales.
Robyne Beaubien, executive director of Clovis MainStreet, said Schallert will be conducting a workshop and will have a marketing roundtable Wednesday in Clovis. The workshop will be from 8 -11:30 a.m., followed by the roundtable from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce building.
“We would like for him to help out business owners and build stronger businesses in the downtown district,” Beaubien said. “He’s going to be talking about how business owners can turn their business into a profitable business.”
The workshop sessions in Clovis are free to Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce members and Clovis MainStreet members. The cost for non-members is $20 per person.
Schallert has been working with independent business owners since 1983 and contributes strategies to the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.
Sturm said an added bonus is that Schallert will select two business owners for free consultations at their businesses. Sturm said Schallert will tour the two businesses and gives personal consultations to the owners on how to improve the businesses.
In his job, Schallert personally consults with each client, analyzing their situation, providing an evaluation, strategy and tactics for improving their operations. Schallert tries to help business owners make their business a “destination business.” He holds business boot camps designed for independent business owners, entrepreneurs, retailers, restaurant owners, and anyone considering opening a business.
Sturm and Beaubien said Schallert’s consulting expenses are paid for by the New Mexico MainStreet Organization.
