Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Roosevelt General Hospital coming up on 5-year anniversary

Roosevelt General Hospital could soon offer a wellness program for the Portales/Clovis area, according to James D’Agostino, RGH administrator.

Roosevelt General Hospital staff, administrators and board members will be celebrate the fifth year anniversary of the hospital at its new location in August. Discussion Tuesday during a RGH Board meeting centered around projects to mark that milestone.

“I want to reach out and do something for the community,” D’Agostino said. “The (Roosevelt County Rural) Telephone Coop. and (Southwest) Canners do a wellness program. We need to get the doctors’ support. It may be something we can do or work with Covenant (Health System in Lubbock). We can take the program and enroll it in Clovis and Portales.”

Richard Pope, director of regional services for Covenant Health System, said the state of New Mexico has mandated public school employees have a wellness program.

Boyd Evans, RGH board member, said he has a wellness program with his employer and is pleased with the program.

People in the wellness program would have a wellness profile created on their health, including lab tests and other tests to help assess and monitor their physical health.

D’Agostino said he would confer with medical staff to see if it is a viable option for the hospital.

D’Agostino also wants to form a committee, containing at least one RGH board member, to prepare an anniversary program for August.

l Carol Rueter, RGH director of nursing, reported 757 patients for the month of March. There were previous reports of 785 patients in December and 776 in October.

Eye Associates medical staff members were at the hospital and saw 37 patients and that home health care had 23 patients.

Rueter said the Roosevelt County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners reported no victims seen in March. She added that April is “Sexual Assault Awareness Month”.
