Meetings watch: Clovis school board

The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education met Tuesday evening at 1009 Main Street.

The following is a summary of the meeting:

• Clovis High School seniors Amanda Flanagan and Matthew Sena were recognized as Board of Education Scholarship Recipients.

• Yucca Junior High School Family Consumer Community Leaders of America students, and their advisor, Amy Garcia, were recognized for their performance in a state FCCLA competition held in Albuquerque last month. The Yucca FCCLA won the following awards:

• Jessica Farkas: Silver in Chapter banner

• Josh Ray and Robert Noble: Silver in crudities

• Drael Davidson: Bronze in cake decorating

• Susanne Winslow: Silver in cake decorating

• Holly Grooms: Gold in cake decorating

• Kayla Johnson and Marissa Sena: Silver in Chapter service project

• Amber Starbuck and Anna Winslow: Gold in Chapter service project

• Taylor Quinn, Cynthia Madrid and Holly Grooms: Silver in Chapter showcase

• Master Advisor Award: Amy Garcia

Starbuck and Winslow will compete in the national FCCLA competition scheduled for July in Nashville.

• A 2006 lease agreement with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church was renewed. The schools rent space in the church for an alternative high school program, Choices.

• A purchase agreement with Government Capital Corp., a company which supplies educational software to schools, was approved. The agreement will eliminate current restrictions on the number of people who can use the educational software at one time, according to CMS administrator David Briseno.

• The 2006-2007 Title I Migrant application, which garners federal funds for the education of migrant children, was approved by school board members. The school district served 120 migrant students this year, a typical figure for Clovis, Briseno said.

• The 2006-2007 IDEA budget for special education programs was approved by school board members.

• Board members approved a revision of the CMS nepotism policy. The revised policy includes an additional paragraph which states, “no school employee may be the immediate supervisor of one’s spouse, father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, son, son-in-law, daughter or daughter-in-law.”
