Amarillo College
Amarillo College awarded degrees and certificates to 1,049 students at the 76th commencement cerremonies recently at the Amarillo Civic Center Cal Farley Coliseum. They included seven graduates of Clovis High School and one Texico High School graduate. Clovis High School graduates who earned degrees and certification are Melissa E. Kopenits, Associate in Arts degree; Jason Michall Williams, Associate in Science degree; Glenda F. Cannes and Cynthia Marie Martinez, Associate in Applied Science degrees, and Christopher A.D. Hord, Debbie McDonald and Cynthia M. Nelms, Certificates of Completion. Brittany Nichole Brown, of Texico, earned a Certificate of Completion.
Shaeffer
.J. Duncan Shaeffer, formerly of Clovis, has received the 2006 Dean’s Distinguished Teaching Award at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., where he is a member of the geography department of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The son of Marty and E.C. Shaeffer of Clovis, he was nominated and selected by students for the award.
Ray
On May 13, Quentin Ray of Clovis was honored as New Mexico State University Alumni Association Outstanding Senior as part of commencement, according to a news release from the university.
The College of Agriculture and Home Economics honored Ray, an agricultural economics and agricultural business major. He has a 3.96 grade point averrage, is on the dean’s list, is a Crimson Scholar and serves as the vice president of the Associated Students of NMSU, the student government. He is a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha and received Phi Eta Sigma honors.
Ford
Nichole M. Ford of Clovis graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, according to a news release from the university.
Hernandez
Ryan James Hernandez, son of James Henry Hernandez of Clovis, has been awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He holds an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame. After completing a residency in diagnostic radiology at University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., Hernandez hopes to pursue a fellowship in interventional neuroradiology.
