Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Autumn is approaching us. I love the crispy air of fall with chilly nights, football games, pumpkins and homemade chili. It’s the time to leave my outdoor swing and exchange it for the crackling fire in the fireplace.
Fall is the time when God takes his master paintbrush and tips the foliage with gorgeous hues of red, orange and golden streaks of beauty.
The harvest moon peaking over the horizon seems to welcome the season.
Living in the jungle or North Pole would not appeal to me. I enjoy each change of season. Whatever season it is, that is my favorite, unless it’s the next one and my anticipation grows as that season approaches.
Our lives are like seasons. From babyhood to adulthood, middle age or older age, each season brings its own unique rewards and blessings. A baby’s birth brings such joy to the family. We have recently welcomed our first great grandchild. Four generation photos are all over the house and I’m sure we have done our share of bragging.
Young adulthood is so exciting with all the plans and dreams of the future. I watch with pride as grandchildren now pursue God’s plan for their lives.
Middle age brings another grown generation and an empty nest.
Older age comes before we know it, yet for the believer, it is the best time of all.
When a baby is born, its fists are clenched and it is crying, but everyone around it is happy. When a Christian dies, his fists are open. Everyone around the loved one is crying but he or she is not dead. They simply have stepped into another dimension of life … eternal life.
So let’s relish the seasons in our lives. Let’s be happy memory makers as we go about our days. With Abraham we “look for a city with foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (Hebrews 11:10)
To me seasons of life and nature have a parallel with scriptures. In springtime, there is the planting season: “For, he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:8).
Summertime is the growing season for growing things and we study to show ourselves “approved, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
Fall brings our harvest. By planting, growing, weeding and watering with the Word, we put other’s interest above our own. (Philippians 2:4) We harvest the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” (Galatians 5:22)
The winter of life brings the heavenly reward. With the apostle Paul we can say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7).
What a wonderful way to live … living in the seasons of life. Look for the beauty in all of your seasons. Whatever season you are in take time today to breathe deeply that early morning air. Take a walk and appreciate God’s beauty. Enjoy the gorgeous colors that will soon appear. Realize that we only have one chance at life. Make the most of it.
Make it a masterpiece of living. Life is delicious!
The changes of seasons give me happiness and I savor each one. Let’s live each season with love and thanksgiving, counting the daily blessings with joy and gratitude for another day of life. May we greet morning’s dawn with joyfulness because it’s another day to be happy in whatever stage of life you’re in. With that attitude happiness comes with the changes in your life.
Reflect on your season of life and be grateful.
Stand strong in the Lord. We are on the winner’s side. How do I know?
