Cass Dimitroff sparks Foxes
CARRIZOZO — Cass Dimitroff ran for 195 yards four touchdowns and threw for another score as the visiting Fort Sumner Foxes defeated the host Grizzlies 38-26.
Dimitroff ran for got TDs of 28, 25, 14, and 2 yards for the top-ranked Foxes (2-0), kicked four PATs and threw a 9-yard pass to Vincent Sena in substitution duty for Ryan Hall, who dislocated a finger in the first half and sat out the second half.
Anthony Griffin added 78 yards rushing for the Foxes and Braeden Dimitroff accounted for 100 yards of offense (62 receiving, 38 rushing) for the Foxes.
Eric Korosil led the effort for Carrizozo (1-1) with 13 rushes for 65 yards and a pair of scores, while Johnny Beltran had 95 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Farwell beats turnover-prone Plains
FARWELL — Farwell turned two of eight Plains turnovers into touchdowns and beating Plains 42-15 Friday in its season opener.
Ramon Quezada returned a fumble 31 yards for a scored and Brett Howard added a 68-yard TD return for the Steers.
Senior quarterback Derrick Chandler rushed for 32 yards and added a 21-yard TD pass to Ross McClarand, which put Farwell up 28-7 early in the third quarter.
Alex Olmos and Jonathan Edwards added short TD runs for Farwell.
Plains quarterback Chris Addison passed 225 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times.
Bovina blanks Morton
BOVINA — Frank Martinez scored on a 1-yard run and James Lara added a 37-yard field goal as Bovina opened its season Friday by beating Morton 10-0.
Mauricio Garcia rushed for 91 yards on 15 carries for Bovina.
Trent Quintana’s interception and 15-yard return set up Martinez’ first-quarter TD.
