Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
I have something to say about my country.
If America is so bad, why is it everyone wants to come here? Why do countries with dictatorship loathe America? Why do enemies, domestic and foreign, want to destroy this land?
I think I have the answer. Our founding fathers had the wisdom to govern our Constitution on biblical principles that have endured for more than 200 years.
There is no other place like the United States of America.
Why? Freedom.
Living in America is a privilege. Visit a foreign country and you will come home with a greater appreciation of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Let me tell you some of the things that makes this country great:
• You can walk into a store and you will have multiple choices to purchase something.
• You can attend the church of your choice without fear. In some countries, you are persecuted, harassed and may lose your life over your choice of religion. I am thankful to live in a nation that allows me to worship freely.
• You can vote for the candidate of your choice. Freedom does not exist in dictatorship.
• You can express your thoughts without fear of reprisal.
• You have the advantage of health care and life saving technologies; procedures that extend your life’s pan.
• You have the opportunity to receive an education from preschool to college degrees with futures of professional employment.
Freedom. That’s what this country is about. How many lives have sacrificed to preserve this freedom? How many are sacrificing today for the same reasons? I say to all of those who are fighting for freedom:
“You are the bravest of the brave. The courage and strength displayed and the respect and diligence shown is forever embedded in the hearts of Americans. We weep and mourn for the loss of lives and our hearts ache with grieving families.
Please know you are the heroes of America and we greet and thank you with open arms.
“You stand for accountability, responsibility and honesty. You are the real patriots and we stand behind you with support, unity and appreciation. You are decent, sacrificial people who love America and what it stands for. You are the backbone of this nation and make it possible to leave a place for our children and grandchildren.
I pray God surrounds you with his angels. May He guard your every step. I pray for loved ones you have left behind and may you come back home safely.”
I thank God I live in America, but I’m even more thankful for a savior who died for me upon a cross. Many all of us remember a man on a cross who gave the highest sacrifice to free us from the bondage of sin. “We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong. Do not change and go back into the slavery of the law” (Galatians 5:1 NCV).
On President’s Day let us celebrate freedom and have gratitude for the guidance of a loving God.
Let freedom ring throughout this day and every day. Let the flags wave. Let the proud sing with hands over hearts.
I must say it again, “America, I love you.”
