Education Digest: Clovis Schools set summer hours

Clovis Municipal Schools has set summer hours of operation for the central office, Student Support Center and Clovis High School through July 13.

Central office and Student Support Center hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Clovis High School hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The school is closed Friday.

Garcia receives university honor

Valerie Garcia of Clovis received a 2007 Clauve Outstanding Senior Award at the University of New Mexico, according to a UNM news release.

She was one of seven seniors to receive the award, based on leadership and involvement as well as academics. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, according to the release.

ENMU establishes MySpace page

Eastern New Mexico University now has a MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/easternnewmexico, according to an ENMU news release.

On the page is a “blog” for visitors to post thoughts, suggestions or questions about ENMU, the release reads.

According to Wendel Sloan, director of media relations, everyone interested in ENMU, including alumni, friends and prospective students and their parents, are welcome to join as “friends.”

CMS personnel changes announced

The following personnel changes for Clovis Municipal Schools were announced at Tuesday’s school board meeting:

Teacher resignations: Kimberly Potters, high school mathematics; Diane Waller, special education teacher for Choices; Tammy Northcutt, high school special education; Ingrid Bender, second-grade teacher, Barry Elementary; Bill Morrison, high school agriculture science coordinator/teacher; and Laura Hill, student support center, gifted and talented students.

Certified staff employment: Lori Atkinson, Parkview Elementary music teacher; Natalie Schettino, Lockwood Elementary music teacher; Niki Johnson, freshman mathetics teacher; Ginny Swann, Bella Vista fifth-grade teacher; Stacey Burdett, Barry Elementary fifth-grade teacher; Eva Garcia, dual-language first-grade teacher at Lockwood Elementary; and Melissa Galvan and Maria Lopez, dual-language first-grade teachers, La Casita Elementary.

Support staff resignations: Ginger Woods, educational assistant for Los Ninos Early Intervention Center; Miranda Bonney, Mesa Elementary educational assistant; Amy Myers, Bella Vista computer lab educational assistant; Kizzy Maloni, Highland Elementary physical education educational assistant; Jennifer Blackwell, Barry Elementary physical education educational assistant; Sheri Cox-Kovacs, Barry Elementary educational assistant; DeSean Rhoden, family home liaison, Choices; and Christy Oborny, Lockwood Elementary school secretary.

Support staff employment: Jennifer Perales, assessment specialist for federal programs department, transfer; and Kim Monroe, freshman special education educational assistant.
