Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Wishing to share with the community a time of fellowship has prompted the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ and the Southside Church of Christ to host a community-wide Harvest Celebration Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday.
“We wanted to do something that would show the community the abundance of God’s blessings we’ve received,” said David Bennett, minister of Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.
Members from both church congregations spent the past six weeks planning and preparing for the community-wide meal.
Several donated their time to prepare the food that will be served, Bennett said.
“We’ve got lots of wonderful ladies and good cooks. Everyone is excited and looking forward to it,” said volunteer and church member Sharon Lieb.
Volunteers will serve the meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. There is no charge for the meal.
Church members have been compiling a list of local shut-ins so that a meal can be delivered to them. Rides will also be available for those who wish to attend the meal, but are unable to get to the church, Bennett said.
“We’re excited to be able to do some things together and show our unity,” Bennett said.
At Southside Church of Christ, members of the congregation have also been busy preparing for the Harvest Celebration. Division of the duties has allowed members to help with the food preparation, serving and expenses, said elder and member Charles Anderson.
“I think it’s a great event. We just want to be a positive force in our community and we feel like this is one great way to do it,” Anderson said.
