Local man arrested, drug charges pending

Law enforcement officers arrested a Roosevelt County man and seized items suspected to be used in methamphetamine production Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, Cody Banister, 27 was arrested on probation violation and RCSO officials say numerous other charges related to the production of methamphetamine are pending.

Agents of the RCSO and the Region V Drug Task Force and the Portales Police served a search warrant after a parole officer on a home visit to Banister’s residence at 137 Mesilla Park became suspicious of illegal drug activity.

“A majority of the components for the manufacture of meth was seized,” RCSO Chief Deputy Malin Parker said.

In addition, a small amount of the drug was seized.

Banister is currently in Roosevelt County jail without bond. Parker said a variety of other charges are pending against him and another person who has not been arrested yet.

According to the release, a two-month-old child was in the home at the time of Banister’s arrest.
