Faith leads way to safety

A pilot in a small plane remembered his instructor had always told him that if he ever found himself in a thick fog to bear in mind this important concept: The pilot’s tendency in a fog is to fly downward, getting dangerously close to the ground. The instructor’s directions were to let the plane have full reign in such a case; to simply let go and let the plane fly by what it was made to do.

One day the pilot found himself in just such a situation. Visibility was zero. The pilot strongly felt he must fly downward, but he remembered the instructor’s teaching, “Let the plane fly by faith.”

The pilot followed his instructor’s advice, and let the plane fly by what it was made to do. Immediately he felt the plane rise, gaining a safe altitude. Ultimately, the pilot rose above the fog and initiated a safe landing.

We may not be pilots, but many times we find ourselves surrounded by problems with no visibility and we are dangerously close to crashing. It is so important at these times to listen to our instructor’s voice.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about every thing; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers” (Philippians 4:6 TLB).

My faith is small when I’m not trusting, standing in doubt or wavering. Tossing about on a sea of anxiety shows just where my faith is.

In essence I’m saying that my problems are too big for God to handle. I hurry to repent. I don’t want to be in doubt and unbelief.

The really good news is there is a conquering faith and that’s where I want to be.

Conquering faith knows that the God of this universe answers and delivers. Conquering faith looks neither to the left nor to the right, but keeps a firm focus on Jesus.

Conquering faith encourages oneself in the Lord as David did in 1 Samuel 39:6.

Conquering faith knows that “…greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Conquering faith gives burdens to the Lord and then rest in him.

Conquering faith realizes the “battle is the Lord’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Conquering faith knows that we live by “faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Conquering faith is persuaded that “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37).

Every day we use our faith in every day living. (Driving our car, food we eat, chairs we sit on, airplane flights, medical procedures, finances, etc.) Yet when it comes to trusting our Creator many of us try to “fix it” ourselves, which results in all kinds of physical and mental ailments.

Several times in the ministry of Jesus, he remarked, “O, ye of little faith” (Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, and 16:8). Why worry? “Each day has trouble of its own.” Worried about the storms of life? God is in control. Troubles surround you? God is the only One that can help.

Want to see a miracle and then believe? It doesn’t work that way. Believe first. Faith believes all things are possible with God. If we follow our Maker’s instructions and do what we were made to do we will avoid many wrecks in life.

Jesus, our pilot, knows our course and he will bring us to a safe landing.

Get in the plane of hope today and fly by conquering faith!
