Charles Hemphill passes along a joke about an atheist in the woods:
As he walked along, the atheist heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. When he turned to look, a 7-foot grizzly bear was charging toward him.
He ran but the bear was soon on top of him and the atheist began crying out to God.
God replied: “Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I now to count you as a believer?”
The atheist conceded it would be hypocritical of him to suddenly become a Christian at this juncture, and so he asked God if perhaps the bear might become a believer.
“Very well,” came God’s reply.
The bear brought his paws together, bowed his head and began to pray:
“Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

With Valentine’s Day on Thursday, editors have been asking readers, “How did you meet your spouse?”
• Christian and Jeannie Heller met on the C.B. radio. She was the “Bayou Babe.”
• Carolyn Spence met her husband Karl on a blind date, after he’d been stood up on a double date.
• Janet Mason met her husband Rodney at a softball game. She smashed a triple and the rest is history.
