Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Participants in Project: Reader Reaction were asked what needs to change about Clovis.
Here’s what some had to say:
• Darlene Cunningham: “I really feel that some people here need to feel more pride in their belongings and their lives. My mother was very low income, like a lot of Clovis. She took pride in her things, meager though they were. Everything was well taken care of and her home was always nice. Sure, it may have needed a paint job, but you could tell she loved her home and that she was proud of it.”
• Anna Baucom: “I would appreciate a little less wind and there are too many dips in the streets or maybe they are just too deep. I still wish the Clovis Hotel was like it was when I came here in 1967 to Cannon Air Force Base as a civilian employee. It was so nice then.”

Participants in Project: Reader Reaction were asked what they love about Clovis.
Here’s what some had to say:
• Carolyn Spence: “No one thinks it’s strange to pray.”
• Gina Hochhalter: “The locals are oftentimes (and by default, surprisingly) more inspiring and open to diversity than people who move here. We should be happier because these are great qualities, and we should definitely not fear them.”
• Gerald Majewski: “The friendliness of most of the people. Others need to learn from them.”
