Police investigate shooting near fraternity

Portales Police were called to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of a fraternity house on West First Street early Sunday morning.

Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said no one was hurt in the incident in which one round was discharged around 3 a.m. Sunday. He said no bullets struck the residence.

According to Berry, police have a suspect but because police didn’t witness the discharge of a weapon an arrest cannot be made without a formal warrant. He said that police are seeking that warrant.
