Cancer study seeks local participants

Volunteers are needed to participate in a long-term Cancer Prevention Study 3 through the American Cancer Society.

The study enrollment initially will be conducted from 5:30-9:30 p.m. May 2, during the first night of the Clovis/ Curry County Relay for Life at Ned Houk Park in Clovis.

The Cancer Prevention Study 3 at the local Relay for Life will be the only one offered in New Mexico this year, according to Dorothy Nelson, community relationship manager for the Clovis office of the American Cancer Society.

Nelson said the ACS needs people ages 30-65 who have no personal history of cancer to enter the study.

The study enrollment only takes about 30 minutes at the May 2 Relay for Life. After that, participants will be contacted about every two years for approximately 20 years. The study simply involves periodic followup questionnaires.
