Relay for Life

Teams are organizing for this year’s Clovis/Curry County Relay for Life, which begins at 6 p.m. May 2 at Ned Houk Park in Clovis.

Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, more than 4,800 relays are held nationwide to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and to raise money.

Individuals interested in participating in the overnight event may contact Melissa Crowe at 763-2261 or Rebecca Holt at 762-9492 to sign up.

Change of Command

Maj. Ryan Rowe will relinquish command of the 27th Special Operations Component Maintenance Squadron to Maj. Andrew Young at 9 a.m. May 2 in Hangar 16.

A reception will follow.

The uniform for military is uniform of the day and business casual for civilians.

Golden Dumpster competition

Cannon, Clovis and Curry County will work together for the annual “Keep Clovis Beautiful” clean-up day on Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at the Clovis City Parks Department at 5th and Sycamore streets at 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

There will be free pizza and sodas after the cleanup at noon.

Teams will compete for the “Golden Dumpster” trophy, which is based on the total weight of trash collected.

Teams will be assigned to pick up trash along major roads around Clovis.

Volunteers should bring work gloves and reflective vests if possible.

Honor Guard part of ceremony

As part of Clovis’ observances next week for the May 1 National Day of Prayer, the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard will raise the new flag at the Master’s Centre in a formal ceremony.

The ceremony will begin at 7 a.m. Thursday outside the Master’s Centre at the corner of 21st and Prince streets in Clovis.

The Clovis National Day of Prayer Task Force organizers are asking that as many people come out as possible to honor the raising of the American flag, according to a news release.

Clinic to close for training

The Cannon Air Force Base clinic and pharmacy will be closed May 8 in observance of a wing training day.

The second Thursday of every month has been designated as a wing training day by Col. Tim Leahy, 27th Special Operations Wing commander.
