Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Next weekend will be tax free

New Mexico students are getting ready to go back to school. But first they’re getting ready to go shopping for back-to-school supplies.

And this weekend, those back-to-school purchases will be tax free.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday will mark the fourth year for the tax holiday. Gov. Bill Richardson said in a press release that businesses throughout the state will be participating.

Clovis Municipal Schools begin classes Aug. 13 for grades 1-12 and Aug. 18 for Kindergarten.

Portales Municipal Schools begin classes Aug. 18 for grades 2-12 and Aug. 25 for kindergarten and first grade.

Here are a few nontaxable items:

• Belts

• Raincoats
