Portales man assaulted, hospitalized

A 48-year-old Portales assault victim was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, according to hospital spokesperson.

Officers found Michael Aguilar lying in the street in the 800 block of East Amazon about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said. He sustained injuries to his head and face, Berry said.

Berry said two males suspected in the assault located near the scene were questioned by police but not detained.

It is unknown if Aguilar knew the suspects, Berry said.

A warrant will be issued for the arrest of the two suspects once the level of injury has been determined, he said.

“The level of injury will determine what charges will be filed against the two suspects,” Berry said.

The incident is not connected to a series of armed robberies in the Clovis and Portales area, Berry said.
