Window shooting spree reported

Portales police are investigating a window shooting spree that occurred late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Officers have taken 15 criminal damage reports from residents who had vehicle windows broken by someone firing a pellet or BB gun, according to Capt. Lonnie Berry of the Portales Police Department.

He said the first report came in about 10 p.m. Tuesday and the reports peaked early Wednesday morning. He said from one to three windows were shot out in the vehicles. Replacement windows were valued between $50 and $300 each.

He said damage was reported around the city, with East Third Street and the area of 18th Street and Avenue A hit the hardest.

Berry said officers are working on a few leads in the case but no arrests have been made.

He asks that residents that see suspicious behavior contact the police.
