Texas firm awarded contract for Cannon flight simulator

The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $8.1 million contract to complete construction of a flight simulator facility at Cannon Air Force Base, according to a release from U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M.

Phil Howry Co. of West Lake Hills, Texas, will construct a Special Operations MC-130J aircraft simulator facility to house mission rehearsals and crew training prior to the arrival of the aircraft at Cannon, now home to the Air Force Special Operations Command.

The aircraft are designed to provide special operations support and air refueling of helicopters.

The facility contract calls for construction of a one-story facility, with site preparation, seismic requirements, fire protection, communication support, generator and all supporting utilities. The expected completion date is March 2010.

The funds for the project are in the military construction portion of the FY2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.
