Fall semester enrollment up at ENMU

Eastern New Mexico University’s fall enrollment is up 2.9 percent, according to a university press release.

Enrollment at the four-year school grew from 4,180 in 2007 to 4,300 this year. Credit hours are also up 3.2 percent.

“We’re pleased with the increase in enrollment,” ENMU President Steven Gamble said. “In today’s academic environment, any increase in enrollment and credit hours is good news. We believe that our continuing growth shows that our reputation for high academic quality at an affordable price, combined with personal attention, is being recognized by an increasing number of prospective students and their parents."

Gamble attributed the increased enrollment largely dramatic growth in the nursing program, a large array of Internet courses, and dual enrollment for high school students taking ENMU courses — especially in agriculture.

Gamble said enrollment has increased steadily since 2000, when fall enrollment stood at 3,581.

“We’re doing a better job of presenting the quality of education that’s available at ENMU,” Gamble said, drawing students from Texas and Albuquerque.

First-time freshmen (including ones who enrolled this summer) increased from 551 in fall 2007 to 567 in fall 2008, also an increase of 2.9 percent.
