Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Hispanic Affairs Office at Eastern New Mexico University is holding 20 events in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Multicultural Affairs Director Diana Cordova believes it is important for individuals to learn the history behind other cultures.
“The more we understand each other,” she said, “the better we are going to synergize and respect.”
A different event is scheduled every weekday.
Miguel Bernal’s Flamenco Ensemble of Los Angeles kicked off the celebration Monday night. Cordova said the event was a success and more than 200 people attended.
On Thursday, the public is invited to learn the meaning and history of the traditional Quinceanera.
In the Hispanic culture, a Quinceanera celebration is seen as a young woman’s rite of passage.
The events, which run through Oct. 15, are free and open to the public.
