Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Authors to visit ENMU

Two authors originally from eastern New Mexico will be at the Eastern New Mexico University bookstore on Saturday.

Sterling Dean, the pen name of Dean Hardage, is author of “PHasT Times,” a science fiction novel. While on a routing trading mission to an asteroid mining colony, the protagonist, Capt. Galrang Elbercroft, becomes involved in a web of deceit and violence. He, his crew and the colony must battle a mercernary hoarde.

Hardage was born in Clovis, graduated from Farwell High School, and served in the U.S. Army before returning to Clovis in 1999.

Hardage will be available at the book store from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Paula (Edmonds) Moore, a Portales native, is author of “Cricket in the Web: The 1949 Unsolved Murder that Unraveled Politics in New Mexico.”

The book recounts the notorious 1949 murder of Ovida "Cricket" Coogler, an 18-year-old Las Cruces waitress who consorted with some Santa Fe politicos at a time when the state fostered an "anything goes" attitude toward vice of all kinds, particularly illegal gambling.
