Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Festival set for Saturday

The Portales MainStreet Program is bringing the Santa Fe Brewing Co. to town for a fall festival Saturday night.

“(We are hoping) to create ‘Alive After 5’ entertainment, to have different venues for people — young and old,” said Danny Woodward, president of Portales MainStreet.

MainStreet organizers have said the planned the event to coincide with Eastern New Mexico University’s Homecoming. The homecoming game will be held Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Stadium.

In order to serve alcohol, MainStreet had to apply to the state and get permission from the city.

The Santa Fe Brewing Co. will be serving up eight types of beer from its beer trailer, said Brian Lock, company president. Those include Santa Fe Hefeweizen, Santa Fe Pale Ale, Santa Fe Nut Brown, State Pen Porter, I.P.A., Freestyle Pilsner, Oktober Fest and a guest beer from Ska Brewing Co. in Colorado, Pinstripe Red Ale.

“We will also have a couple of surprises … It is our 20th anniversary,” said Lock.

Visitors will be tasting “the most well-balanced beers produced in the state,” he said. “We use only the finest ingredients from all parts of the globe.”

He said the Santa Fe Brewing Co. tries to participate in as many festivals as possible “to spread the love of beer to as many people as possible. We enjoy serving and educating people as much as people enjoy trying new beer.”

The event includes music by the Fun Brothers and other local bands.

Sunland Peanuts and Borden Peanuts will set up booths where they will sell a variety of peanut products grown and produced in Roosevelt County.

Visitors must be 21 to enter the beer garden.
