Flute player to perform
Eastern New Mexico University in Portales will host guest flutist Chih-Hsien Chien for a master class and performance. Chien’s master class will be held from 2-4 p.m. today in the Zia Room of the Campus Union Building. Chien’s solo recital featuring Dr. Lindsey Beasley will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.
Chien is a freelance musician and member of the Los Angeles Flute Orchestra. She has played professionally with the National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. Chien has won multiple awards and competitions including the National Flute Competition in Taiwan, the Tom Harris Award, the Mark Hindsley Award and the A. A. Harding award.

Republican Party to meet
The Roosevelt County Republican Party will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Building meeting room.
The meeting is open to the public.
Oasis plans kids’ fishing clinic
Oasis State Park will hold its annual kids’ fishing clinic from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
The event is for children ages 6-17 and their parents or other responsible adult. Children ages 12 and older must have a valid fishing license.
Entry fee is one or two cans of food per child, which will be donated to the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Portales will provide lunch.
Children should dress appropriately for the weather and bring fishing gear and tackle if available.
Participants must pre-register by calling 356-5331. Provide the child’s name and age, and adult’s name and phone number.
Trinity Family Center plans harvest festival
Trinity Family Center will hold its third annual harvest festival from 6-9 p.m. Friday at 601 S. Ave. B.
The event features games, candy, food and door prizes. The Portales Fire Department will bring its fire safety house, and Eastern New Mexico Tae Kwon Do will give a demonstration.
The event is designed for families in a safe environment.
