The Portales Municipal School Board approved an updated grade adjustment policy at their regular meeting Monday night.
The policy defines the teacher’s role in assigning grades to students and changing grades due to mechanical or clerical errors.
“We needed to update the grade adjustments policy to make sure we are being fair to the students, the parents and to the teachers,” Superintendent Randy Fowler said.
The policy also allows for the student and the student’s parents to challenge a grade they believe to be inaccurate by contacting the school records custodian.
In other business Monday, the board:
• Accepted donation of $450 from Chuck and Patricia Thatcher for a seventh-grade field trip to visit Blackwater Draw Museum and archeological site.
• Accepted donation of $1,705 from a craft and book sale for the Brown Early Childhood Center library. Louise Shoemaker presented the funds.
• Accepted donation of 240 paperback dictionaries from the Clovis/Portales Elks Lodge No. 1244 for the third-grade students at James Elementary School.
• Approved 15 budget adjustments and one cash transfer request.
