Genaro Solis-Cordoba, 31, of Portales has been convicted of trafficking cocaine, a second-degree felony, and given the maximum sentence of nine years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, according to Roosevelt County Chief Deputy Sheriff Malin Parker.
Solis-Cordoba was tried, convicted and sentenced Tuesday on charges stemming from an investigation on Oct. 29, 2007. Deputy District Attorney Donna Mowrer was the prosecutor, and Judge Teddy Hartley decided the sentence.
During the investigation last year, Parker said, he and Deputy Sheriff Shawn Gore used an informant to make a controlled cocaine purchase with marked money from Solis-Cordoba.
Solis-Cordoba was arrested later that day. Police obtained a search warrant for his person, vehicle and residence.
Officers found the marked money and multiple packages of cocaine on Solis-Cordoba’s person, Parker said. In his residence, Parker said they found about one ounce of cocaine, packaging material, scales and other drug paraphernalia.
Parker estimated the cocaine had a street value of about $2,000.
