Police report several auto burglaries

Eight auto burglaries have been reported in Portales in less than a week, according to Police Capt. Lonnie Berry.

Sunday, a purse was taken from a vehicle in the 400 block of North Globe Avenue and an iPod from a vehicle in the 100 block of North Avenue A, Berry said.

Saturday, cigarettes and other small items were reported taken from a vehicle on the 100 block of North Globe, he said. The same day in the 500 block of North Globe, a window was broken in a car and a purse was taken.

Berry said the weekend incidents were not connected to previously reported auto burglaries Thursday and Friday.

Berry said police hope to obtain an arrest warrant in the next few days in connection with some of the cases.

Berry advised people to lock their vehicles, put valuables in the trunk and park in well-lit areas.
