Area restaurants are gearing up for a busy Super Bowl Sunday, especially in Clovis where they will be allowed to serve alcohol.
Applebee’s Bar and Grill bar manager Shellie Devou said customers have been asking if the restaurant’s big screen TV will be tuned to the Super Bowl.
“We’re expecting a lot of people,” Devou said. “Sundays are usually pretty busy, but Super Bowl Sunday is going to step it up a notch.”
Devou said Applebee’s is planning for the big rush with a happy hour during the game.
Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest day of the year for Pizza Hut, but the crowds may extend to sit-down dining this year, according to assistant manager Dusty Hanks.
“Since we began serving alcohol on Sundays, Sundays are really busy for games and stuff,” he said. “We’re not quite sure if people will want to come out for the Super Bowl. Most people will stay home and order pizza.”
Chad Heflin, owner of Dawg Houze Bar and Package Store in Portales, said that if Portales passed Sunday sales, he would open the bar, which is closed on Sundays.
“Since we don’t have Sunday sales, most of my business will be done Saturday. People will come to stock up for the Super Bowl parties they’ll have at home,” he said.
