Police investigating armed robbery at Sonic

An armed man robbed the Sonic on Chicago Street about 9 p.m. Thursday, according to Portales police.

Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said one person entered the restaurant with his face partially covered, produced a handgun, demanded cash, and left.

As of about 10:15 p.m., Berry said the police didn’t have a description of the getaway vehicle or know how much money was taken. Officers were still gathering evidence, he said.

Berry said the subject was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build and a long black ponytail. He was wearing a hat and dark-colored clothes, he said.
