Police investigating auto thefts

The Portales Police Department is investigating a string of thefts from unlocked vehicles, according to police.

The thefts happened in residential areas from Sunday until the early Monday morning and right now, they don’t have any suspects, Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said.

“The biggest thing is lock the vehicles,” Berry said. “Always park in well lit areas and don’t leave anything of value especially in plain view, such as laptops, firearms, wallets and purses.”

Stolen items and locations include:

Sunday

• Portales Junior High, handgun.

Monday

• West University Dr., audio stereo.

• West 14th Street, Peavey amplifier.

• West 2nd Street, stereo.

• West 15th Street, mobile radio.

• South Avenue F, Sirius Radio.
