Education feature: FCCLA molds business leaders

When Guy Leeder died in April 2007, his family couldn’t part with the stacks of softball team T-shirts the softball enthusiast had collected over the years. The shirts became garage fodder until his granddaughter decided to put them to use for a Family Career Community Leaders of America project this year.

Taya Leeder made a quilt out of the T-shirts as a recycle and redesign project. The quilt won her a gold medal at the state FCCLA competition in mid April and qualified her for the state competition in July. Leeder said she wanted to do a project that focused on recycling because it’s good for the future.

“It’s very important to recycle,” Leeder said.
