Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Someone has said, “Light a candle instead of cursing the darkness.” How true! Each one of us can make a difference in our world. You may think you are only one person and that you cannot possibly make a difference. Wrong!
I heard a story about a king who was a very hard taskmaster. He demanded strict obedience to his dictatorship. Anyone who dared to disobey was imprisoned.
The people began to unite. They refused to obey the king’s unreasonable demands.
The king had each one imprisoned. At last, the prisons were filled and there was no more room.
The king called in his counselors. “What am I going to do?” demanded the king.
The counselors replied, “What started out as a mandate has now become a protest! You will have to reverse your decree because the people have found out that when they unite for a common cause, dictatorship will not be tolerated.”
Maybe I’m of another generation, but I can remember when a man’s word was his bond.
The present trend of no absolutes pulls down a nation. If it’s OK to lie today, is it OK to steal, too? Is it OK to cheat? Is a lie a lie? Some would argue that “situational ethics” make lying acceptable.
If lying is not wrong, who can be trusted? If stealing is not wrong, why work? If cheating is not wrong, then sign your own diploma. (I would not want my doctor to sign his own diploma.)
Let’s not kid ourselves. We do have a standard of behavior. The road map for life is clearly stated in God’s Word.
Sooner or later, that realization will come home to roost. Even liberals turn to God in a crisis. In a national disaster, no one argues about prayer in school or the Ten Commandments hanging on a wall.
If a dirty bomb were pointing toward this nation, would this nation want a lie or the truth? Would it still be “right”? Is right not necessarily “right” and “wrong” not necessarily “wrong”?
“United we stand” is a biblical principle. People who are united and who take a stand for righteousness win. They are world changers. We are told in Proverbs 10:11: “The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life.” This truth is truth in all situations.
Infanticide can be traced all the way back to biblical times. Infanticide inevitably leads to euthanasia.
Life is a gift from God, and it is precious. God, unlike pagan gods, came to bring life and bring it “abundantly.” (John 10:10) God does not sanction abortion and euthanasia. He is the “Giver of Life.” Life is a sacred, treasured gift, given and taken only by Him.
Take a stand today. Draw the line. Make your voice be heard. Make your vote count by voting for a person who stands for righteousness. Demand integrity from public officials.
Call for accountability in leadership. Object to questionable concepts. Demand responsibility at every opportunity. If Congress ignores the citizenry, vote the members out in the next election. Express your opinion. It is your privilege. Keep on keeping on.
The only way we can change the world is to stand for righteousness.
Two things are certain. No one lives forever, and each one leaves a legacy, good or bad. I want mine to be good, don’t you?
We can make a difference in our world by working together.
You can make a difference today.
You can change your world.
