Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Why is it so hard for the world to admit that a society governed by biblical principles is a society that flourishes? The world’s answer to this dilemma is more gun control, more laws, more policemen, more government funding and more taxes!
Those who live by biblical standards seem to me to have longer lives and are less likely to abuse alcohol or drugs. They are less likely to be wife or child abusers, criminals or law-breakers. They are also twice as likely to stay married, in my years of observation.
The strength of a nation depends on the strength of its families. The strength of families depends on strong faith in a loving God.
In spite of this, the world wants to strip these solid-rock families of their rights, and in many cases, their beliefs. Taking prayer out of school punishes believers. The Ten Commandments have been removed. (Wouldn’t it be appropriate for the students to read, “Thou shalt not kill,” especially when this has happened in school?) When will we learn?
The same ones who complain about Nativity scenes, carols and saying “Merry Christmas” in public places celebrate Christmas anyway. So go figure.
God-fearing families keep this nation strong and balanced.
Every day they must fight to keep and preserve those freedoms that our founding fathers sacrificed for with hard work, compassion and love for America.
The last thing any one of us needs is more government control in our private lives. How much of our tax money is spent on government waste? If we knew the exact amount, it would be more staggering than we know now. I find great government wisdom in Proverbs 29:2: “With good men in authority, the people rejoice, but with the wicked in power, they groan.” Verse 4 states, “A just king gives stability to his nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it.” (TLB)
Habakkuk 1:4 could be describing present-day headlines: “The law is not enforced and there is no justice given in the courts, for the wicked far outnumber the righteous, and bribes and trickery prevail.” (TLB)
So where does all of this leave us? The answer is contained in biblical truths. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34 NIV). Surely we want our nation exalted with law-abiding citizens.
Until we return to biblical truths, we will continue to see a country run rampant. Mankind has a serious problem, and only God can change the heart.
I remember a country my grandparents and parents knew. This was a country that respected God, the flag and life, whether that life was young or old. It was a country that honored morality. Proverbs 28:2: “Where there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily, but with honest, sensible leaders there is stability.” (TLB)
In the face of worldly trials, Joel 3:10 comforts me: “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” Philippians 4:13 gives me courage: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (NIV)
Let us return to the truth of Proverbs 19:23: “Reverence for God gives life, happiness and protection from harm.” (TLB) That just about says it all.
History repeats itself. Wrong decisions in government affect everyone.
In a world of rampant killing, terrorists, biological warfare and nuclear threats, let us remember God is the only cure for mankind’s many ills.
