Curry County commissioners are expected to consider cuts totaling more than $140,000 to county departments during today’s meeting.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office would receive the largest cut, losing $36,000, including some intended for a vehicle, new equipment, vehicle repairs and other items.
Under the proposal, the maintenance department would receive the next largest cut at almost $20,000 that had been earmarked for renovations and repairs, electricity and equipment.
The commission and the clerk’s office would lose more than $16,000 each, administration more than $15,000, finance and the Juvenile Detention Center more than $11,000 each, the assessor’s office more than $8,000, $2,500 from the treasurer’s office and about $1,200 from the information technology department.
County Finance Manager Mark Lansford said the proposed cuts, which amount to about 1.25 percent of the overall budget, would make up for money the county did not receive from the state’s Small Counties Assistance Fund.
