Fire damages mobile home

A fire has inflicted heavy damage on a double-wide mobile home on Roosevelt Road 6. One occupant received minor injuries.

Portales Fire Chief Gary Nuckols said the home, in the Portales Industrial Park area, was a total loss and Red Cross was being called to assist the family.

Nuckols said he had an idea of what started the fire but wouldn't release more information before an investigation.

Firefighters were called to the scene around noon. By about 1:30 p.m., they had the fire under control but were still battling flare ups and hot spots made worse by the wind.

Nuckols said firefighters would remain on scene all afternoon.
