Portales News-Tribune garners awards

The Portales News-Tribune garnered two second-place awards at the Panhandle Press Association conference in Canadian, Texas, this past Thursday through Saturday.

The paper took second in the Feature Stories and Front Page Layout contests for Division II.

For the Feature Stories, “Photos chronicle lasting friendship” and “Group fights to save, relocate prairie dog” by former Portales News-Tribune staff writer Eric Butler and “Spreading the love,” a story about the URLoved weblog, by Freedom New Mexico Staff Writer Liliana Castillo were scored.

Freedom New Mexico copy editors Dianna Hernandez and Gabe Monte’s designs brought in the award for the Front Page Layout category.

PNT’s sister paper, the Clovis News Journal, won 11 awards, including the top honor of General Excellence, in the same division.
