Vacation Bible School preparations under way

From bees to heroes and from Egypt to Saddle Ridge Ranch, Vacation Bible School opportunities with a variety of themes abound in Portales this summer.

Churches around town are hosting the free sessions, some of which involve the whole family.

Calvary Baptist Church secretary Vicky Wood said her church’s weekday morning Vacation Bible School aims to let children have fun and enlighten them about Christ’s message.

Bible school takes at least three months of planning, ordering supplies and recruiting volunteers to teach, work in the kitchen and lead recreation, she said. The effort is worth it to let children know that “there is hope and they can have a life of victory and joy through Jesus Christ.”

First Baptist Church holds a Sunday evening Vacation Bible School in City Park, and Children’s Ministry Director Melissa Lamb said parents can go through activities with their children or just stay and talk.
