Student facing felony charge for bringing knife to school

A Portales High School student accused of carrying a knife to school is facing a felony charge.

According to Portales police records, officers were requested at Lindsey/Steiner Elementary around 7:55 a.m. Thursday on a complaint about an unruly student on Bus 20.

According to police reports:

• Officers discovered a 16-year-old female had a knife with a 2-inch blade in her pocket. She threw a pen at an officer and it struck him as she was emptying her pockets.

• The teen was arrested and charged with carrying a deadly weapon on school property, a fourth-degree felony and disorderly conduct, a petty misdemeanor.

The teen is being held at the juvenile detention center in Clovis.
