Maple Street drainage project begins this week

Portales city workers are making drainage improvements on Maple Street from North Main Street to North Abilene Avenue.

According to a city press release, this phase of the improvement begins this week and is scheduled for completion in 45 days. It’s being funded by a grant from the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Portales Capital Projects Administrator Susan Baysinger said after the drainage phase is complete, an announcement will be made about “chip and seal” repairs on that same street.

Residents traveling through the construction zone are asked to use caution and slow down for construction crews.
