Portales Woman’s Club
Portales Woman’s Club met on Aug. 8, 2010, with President Della Kobernick,
presiding. The Collect was led by Sheryl Borden, the pledges by Heidi Foshee, and Doncella Caywood gave the invocation. There were 31 members and one guest, Genetta Ross, present.
The minutes from the May meeting were approved. The treasurer gave the monthly report as well as presented the proposed budget for 2010-2011, which will be voted on in October. Members were reminded about submitting items for the District Fine Arts contest.
Genetta Ross won the door prize. A thank you letter was read from Marissa Best, the club’s scholarship recipient. A sign-up sheet for the October 9th District Three convention, to be held in Portales, was distributed.
A board recommendation to increase the cost of meals to $6 was approved by the membership. Carol Fletcher and Gertie Swager were elected as delegates to the District convention on October 9th.
The Portales Woman’s Club will provide fourteen centerpieces for the South Central Regional Conference, to be held in Albuquerque in October. Caywood, chair of the club, introduced others serving on the hostess committee: Anne McMath, Mary Louise Childress, June Ferguson and Rose Robbins.
Following the close of the business meeting, Anne McMath told about Operation Wounded Warriors. The club voted to adopt this as one of its projects, and to donate $100 to the cause this year.
Members wanting to donate can drop off items at The Print Shop by September 22nd, and they will be delivered to the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
June Ferguson, GFWC NM President-elect, welcomed two new club members: Dawn Wolf-Taylor and Linda Leaming and presented them with the club flower, a blue carnation. She then told about the organization and its beginning.
